Lahcen was born and raised in the Sahara desert to a loving nomadic family. At the age of 7, he moved with his family to the village of M’hamid El Ghizlane to pursue his education. Seeking something more, he moved to Erg Chigaga as a young adult where he discovered tourism. Here, his second education began. Excited to learn from the perspectives of those he met, he began learning languages, starting with Spanish, then French, English and Italian. He found joy in sharing the desert with travelers and learning from them while walking the dunes, trekking with camels and traveling in 4x4s all while discovering the beauty and diversity of Morocco for himself. It was the collection of these experiences that planted the seed for Zoubir Tours. He understood that the nomadic way of life could be found beyond the desert; it is in every place our hearts are open to discovering and was inspired by the potential for tourism to uplift families in remote areas where economic opportunity was scarce. Lahcen loves to share the full colors of Morocco with the world and learn about the world from his interactions with people.
Lbachir is Zoubir Tours skilled chef. He teaches cooking classes where he shares his knowledge of how people survive in the desert with simple meals. He will show you how to make bread in the natural oven of hot sand (called Mella). Born in the desert, Lbachir chose to stay in the desert because he finds peace and love in the silence of the desert and the quiet life it has to offer. No one knows the desert better than Besher; he can travel through the desert at night as well as through rough wind storms. He enjoys sharing the true image of the desert and those who inhabit it with people from all over the world over a warm and delicious meal.
Abdul is one of Lahcen’s oldest childhood friends and together, they dreamt of connecting with travelers over the internet to share a glimpse of life in the desert and the diversity of Morocco. Being very skilled with information technology, Abdul built Zoubir Tours online presence. While he grew up in the desert, he now lives in Agadir with his family and makes frequent trips to the desert to take back the image of his life in the desert.
Said is our camp’s groundskeeper. Said supported the build of our desert camp near the village of M’hamid El Ghizlane. As a friend of mother nature, Said ensures that the camp runs sustainably as our camp is powered by solar energy. Due to climate change, the desert and village are becoming unsustainably dry, Said has started a garden in the camp in his efforts to fight this drought and keep the desert green. Said also leads camel treks in the dunes of Erg Chigaga.
Brahim is one of Zoubir Tours guides. As one of M’hamid El Ghizlane’s brightest students, Brahim holds two degrees from the University of Agadir in English and Biology. Brahim is naturally curious and an excellent communicator. With him, you’ll be sure to receive an in-depth explanation and thorough narration of the history and culture of the Sahara desert.
Said is a tour guide certified by the Ministry of Tourism. While born and raised in the desert, Said was curious to learn about the history, culture, politics, and economy of Morocco. He went on to make his passion his profession by getting his designation as an official tour guide. He’ll always be happy to share his knowledge of Morocco with you through a funny or touching or insightful story.
Zoubir, Lahcen’s father, is the foundation upon which Zoubir Tours was built. Having spent 60 years in the desert, Zoubir has great respect for the vastness, mystery and peace of the Sahara desert. Lahcen has learned a great deal about the desert and the nomadic way of life from Zoubir. You will find many of his learnings embodied in all those you interact with at Zoubir Tours.
Mohamed is one of Zoubir Tours drivers. Born and raised in the desert, Mohamed spent his early years traveling with camels however today you will find a very skilled and experienced driver in him. As a young adult, he moved to Marrakech where he is currently based and he supports several of our tours across Morocco in 4x4s.
